Degree of Comparison



  •  Degree of Comparison is a kind of comparison used to compare something with another thing or with the others using adjective to compare.
  •  There are three kinds of degree of comparison


o    Positive comparison means that the comparison has same degree
o    Comparative comparison means that there is one of comparisons has a higher degree than the other
o    Superlative comparison means that the comparison is on top of all.
*      How to put degree of comparison in a sentence
Positive (sama)
Comparative (lebih ... daripada)
Superlative (paling)
as + adj + as
adj + er + than ...    (satu suku kata)
more + adj + than ... (lebih dari satu suku kata)
The adj + est + in ... (satu suku kata)
The most + adj + in ... (lebih dari satu suku kata)
ü Rena is as tall as Anna
   (Rena sama tingginya dengan Anna)
ü    Doni is as handsome as Raffi Ahmad
   (Doni sama tampannya dengan Raffi Ahmad)
ü  Rena is taller than Anna
   (Rena lebih tinggi daripada Anna)
ü  Doni is more handsome than Raffi Ahmad
   (Doni lebih tampan daripada Raffi Ahmad)
ü    Rena is the tallest in the class
    (Rena paling tinggi di kelas)
ü Doni is the most handsome in the home
    (Doni paling tampan di rumah)
  • *      The form of adjectives in Comparison Degree is divided into two categories;
  •   Regular, it means that the changing form of adjective is as usual form.
  • Irreular, it means the the changing form of adjective is different from usual form

If the word is ended with letter “Y” and before  letter “Y” is a consonant. The “Y” must be replaced with letter “i” and added by “er” or “est
